adrian_turtleWhen time permitted, my father used to take his shower and get himself more or less dry with a towel. Then he'd get back into bed to read another chapter of his book before going out to do what needed to be done (or before going to sleep). This is a splendid, comfortable, custom. I've taken to it, myself.
Sad to tell, this custom does not go well with long hair, a down comforter, and a damp climate. Da was balding as soon as he stopped wearing a crew cut, and he used an electric blanket that did not hold water for long. Is there an easy fix for a large down comforter that is beginning to mildew?
Sunshine is not available at all this week, and is not reliably available for the next month or so. Though next week might present enough clear weather to get the thing to or from a cleaners without soaking it afresh. Can any cleaners deal with king-size down-stuffed objects, or do I need specialists? I'd rather not have dry-cleaning solvents in my bed, because of the migraine sensitivity (but I'd rather not have mildew in my bed, either.) I know down stuff is usually dry-cleaned. Is that because of the nature of the down, or because of the cloth cover, or people being extra cautious? Local readers: do you know of any commercial tumble dryers big enough for this thing, either to make CERTAIN it's dry after water-washing, or to make the solvent vapors evaporate faster after dry-cleaning?
