After voting, I went to the closest of the used bookshops. They've been stocking more and more new books, and putting them at the front of the store, which is a challenge for my budget. I mostly managed to resist this time. They did not have _His Majesty's Dragon_. I'm buying that in hardcover. I was looking for Kate Wilhelm, which was a handy excuse to browse more of the store than usual. SF, general fiction, mysteries, short stories, YA. Could they have shelved Constance and Charlie in Romance? No.
There I was at end of the Romance shelves. I turned around, and came face to face with Mary Renault's _The Friendly Young Ladies_. Someone had shelved it with Classics. I took it off their hands, so they won't have to worry about finding an appropriate place for it.
In another pleasant surprise, the book dealer said they had an arrangement with the new frozen custard shop around the corner. (They are so new they still don't have any frozen custard, but they do have ice cream.) If I brought them my receipt from the bookshop that afternoon, they would give me a free ice cream.
